Flights and Designated Connections

Volunteer is responsible for booking airfare from departing airport all the way through to the Chihuahua Airport.

Please connect to one of the listed flights below with a

minimum of connection time of 1.5 hours at DFW Airport.

(A couple of people almost missed their connections at the

last clinic due to short connection times and delayed flights)

Note: Because of post-ops on Saturday morning, the clinic is unable to get volunteers

back to the airport on Saturday afternoon for any flights prior to 4pm.

FLIGHT LOGISTICS:

American Airlines is the only airline that currently flies direct from the United States (From Dallas DFW Airport) to
Chihuahua. While other airlines connect through various cities in Mexico, the clinic recommends that volunteers - especially first time volunteers - fly on the recommended American Airline flights.

TO the Guerrero Clinic: Ground transportation is provided from the Chihuahua airport for people on the designated connection above. If you choose an alternate arrival flight, you should schedule your arrival prior to the flights that we organize ground transportation around.

You will stay with the group on Sunday night at a hotel in Chihuahua (cost is included in the volunteer fee). Transportation is provided from the hotel to the Guerrero Clinic on Monday morning.

The drive from the Chihuahua airport is 120 miles and takes about 2 ½ hours. The group stops for lunch (cost is included in the volunteer fee) on the way to Guerrero.

FROM the Guerrero Clinic: Volunteers leave the clinic Saturday late morning after all post operative patients are seen. If you stay overnight on Saturday (cost is included in the volunteer fee), you will enjoy Chihuahua City and can catch one of the first two flights back to the United States on Sunday.

EXPLORING CHIHUAHUA: After the clinic, Saturday afternoon and evening are designated windows for exploring Chihuahua City. Volunteers have the option to go with the group and explore downtown. After a week of hard work and helping people, some volunteers opt to stay at the hotel and hang out at the pool, exercise, catch up on email, socialize or simply catch up on sleep. Dinner is generally low key and is included if you eat with the group.

CONNECTION TIME: If you are connecting through Dallas from another airport, allow a minimum of 1.5 HOURS of connection time. If you miss the flight to Chihuahua, the logistics of figuring out how to get you on another flight and to the clinic are difficult and may cost the volunteer additional money.

LUGGAGE: If you are checking luggage, remember that you must clear customs, re-check luggage, and most likely change terminals in Dallas on your return home.

Please email legible copies of your CURRENT MEDICAL LICENSE(S) and CV to
walter@guerreroclinic.org if you are one of the following medical professionals: Physician, Optometrist, Surgeon, Dentist, CRNA, Nurse, NP, PA, PT or Pharmacist.

DENTISTS MUST BRING THEIR OWN INSTRUMENTS

Information for Optometrists: We suggest, if possible, that you bring your BIO, lenses (20D & 90D), and direct kit (retinoscope and transilluminator). The clinic has a few sets that can be shared across rooms.

Information for Ophthalmologists (Cataract Surgeons): We encourage you to bring your own scrub tech. If you don't have one, we will attempt to locate one for you (who you should expect to sponsor - flights and volunteer fee). While we are successful most of the time, we do not promise that we will always successfully locate an English speaking tech for you.  Also, we suggest, if possible, that you bring two surgery trays of instruments. One can be sterilized while the other is in use.  While we have some trays of instruments, we do not guarrantee that our trays will have all of the instruments that you are accustomed to use.
The clinic expects a strong volunteer response.

It is likely that the number of volunteers will be limited based on available lodging and exam rooms.

The clinic will prioritize spots and accept applications according to its needs.
Submitting applications early improves volunteers' chances of attending the upcoming clinic. Click the button below to apply.
